Embrace The Cloud

As Information Technology becomes more and more strategic and critical in impacting an organization’s bottom line, companies look to the Cloud to decrease IT complexity and drive ROI. For some organizations, Cloud solutions can be more secure, predictable and scalable than on-premise solutions.

Hackers, cyber-terrorists, natural disasters, and man-made disasters are no match for the Cloud. When you consolidate your hardware infrastructure or become completely hardware independent with a virtual disaster recovery and business continuity solution, you can provide a seamless, secure, redundant environment at a fraction of the cost of traditional disaster recovery on-premise solutions.

The Cloud offers the same unified communications and collaboration that a traditional system offers, but with the benefit of not having to maintain your own equipment. Allow on-site and remote users to collaborate seamlessly between devices and platforms. VoIP, mobility, video-conferencing, instant messaging, bring-your-own-device (BYOD), and presence technologies all work together in the Cloud environment. Not ready to go “All In” with a Cloud solution? You don’t have to. You can have a Hybrid solution until you’re ready to cut the cord with your traditional system. This provides you known stability with your on-premise system, along with the disaster recovery security of a Cloud system. We can help you strategize and implement a custom Cloud solution for organizations in any vertical market. It’s time to embrace the Cloud.

Geo-Redundancy: What You Need To Know

When it comes to Cloud Communications, how stable is your phone system during carrier issues such as cable cuts, power outages, and natural disasters?

To answer this, it’s helpful to know how the cloud works. “Cloud” is simply a word that has come to mean “I don’t have to store anything on my local PC.” We store our pictures online. We do our banking online. We do our shopping online. The history of these events are stored “on the cloud.” Or, more accurately, in some huge warehouse that is full of servers that you access via your internet connection. Over time, this has become a more and more secure way of saving data. If I have a disaster at my house, gone are the days where I have a meltdown over all my pictures being lost, because they’re saved to the cloud. There are more important things to worry about than losing data, right?

How does this relate to our communications?

Simple.

With the cloud, you no longer have your hardware stored onsite. It is stored in one of those massive warehouses – or multiple massive warehouses – on servers that, prior to “the cloud,” you kept in your phone and data closets. You still have a phone on your desk, but in case of an emergency you don’t need it. A flip of a switch (so to speak) and you can start taking calls on your cell phone until you’re able to get back to your desk.

But what if the disruption in service doesn’t happen locally? What if it happens in one of those massive warehouses where all the servers are kept?

This is where Geo-Redundancy comes in.

As the name infers, Geo-Redundancy means that no matter your geographic location, your data (or service) is replicated elsewhere. It gives you an extra layer of protection. It allows you to continue receiving calls even if your cloud carrier, for whatever reason, loses power. If you have an internet connection, and your provider’s servers are geo-redundant, it is business as usual for you. If you are the one losing internet connection, with a couple minor tweaks you can continue doing business from your cell phone until your internet connection is restored. It is your best option for not losing business when life happens.

With everblu, we always strive to stay ahead of the game and keep up with the latest technology. Beginning June 1, 2019, all our cloud installs will go onto geo-redundant servers, giving our customers the best chance to keep business up and going when disaster strikes.

Disaster Recovery – Are You Prepared?

With the rising waters of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, Disaster Recovery has come to the forefront of our minds. It’s one of those things like life insurance that you just don’t want to talk about. It’s easy to get apathetic and feel like it’s money that could be spent on other seemingly more important things in your normal day to day business life.

We insure our homes, our cars, our health for a sense of security in our personal lives, knowing that if anything out of the ordinary happened we would be alright. As business owners, we insure our buildings, our inventory, our fleet so that we’re protected from unforeseen events. It seems like enough, right?

But what about your information? Are you insuring your day to day business records?

What about your communications? Do you have insurance that guarantees your clientele can always reach you?

Can you continue to business if you have a blizzard and your staff can’t make it to work?

This is what we are talking about when we begin the Disaster Recovery discussion.

Disaster recovery (DR) is an area of security planning that aims to protect your whole organization from the effects of a significant negative event. DR allows you to maintain or quickly resume mission-critical functions following a disaster – or even just a major inconvenience.

A few questions you can ask yourself to see if you’ve taken adequate steps to protect your business in the case of a catastrophic event:

  1. Can I still access my data base?
  2. Can my employees get to work?
  3. Can my employees effectively work from an off-site location?
  4. Can my customers contact me?
  5. Can a transition from on-site to off-site be made easily?

Making assumptions that your organization is immune to natural disasters can be an extremely costly mistake. Some businesses never fully recover from it. Would yours?

SD-WAN: What Is It & How Will It Improve My everblü Experience

What is SD-WAN?

SD-WAN is a solution designed to optimize voice data traffic. Its primary function is to shape bandwidth and intelligently route traffic in order to ensure the highest voice quality. Secondarily, it works to prioritize your most important data traffic based on your policies and create special routing for your most used cloud-based services (e.g. Office 365, Salesforce.com).

Who is SD-WAN for?

An SD-WAN solution is for organizations with remote workers, multiple locations/branches, or workflows that require employees to rely on multiple network types or distributed networks. SD-WAN also benefits organizations that have bandwidth limits and need reliability and stability for both their VoIP and standard data.

Why would I buy SD-WAN instead of just buying an extra pipe?

SD-WAN performs optimization. It ensures that you’re making the best use of your current bandwidth and ensures the optimal path to the datacenter. Think of it this way: if you want your car to go faster, you don’t build a bigger highway, you upgrade your car. SD-WAN is the turbo charger for your voice traffic.

How does this benefit me?

SD-WAN will improve voice quality and it will give you visibility into your network health and troubleshooting ability. With SD-WAN, you could even see where there are issues with the ISP, and be notified that there are service issues related to the ISP rather than having to spend time trying to track down issues that you aren’t in control of.

How does it work?

Prioritization: SD‑WAN prioritizes voice traffic over data to ensure the highest voice quality. When you run out of bandwidth for your standard data, your pages run slow, but when you run out of bandwidth for voice, your calls sound awful, or worse, drop.

Monitoring & Remediation:  SD‑WAN monitors voice quality and upon sensing a degradation of voice quality it will automatically do one of two things:

  • Packet Duplication:When packet loss is sensed, SD‑WAN will automatically begins duplicationg packets in order to avoid voice quality degradation.
  • Delay Transmission:When jitter is sensed, SD‑WAN will delay the sending of packets to smooth out voice quality.

Specialized Routing:  When sending the voice packets, SD‑WAN creates specialized tunnels, isolating your traffic from standard internet traffic and ensuring the most direct route between your networks and the data centers.

Distributed Network Optimization:  SD‑WAN works to manage and optimize connections between disparate locations and distributed networks, so employees at different locations have the same level of access and network quality.

Troubleshooting:   SD‑WAN provides sophisticated troubleshooting functionality that can show you where there are issues and what remediation is being carried out automatically.

The bottom line: If you want your voice traffic to take priority over everything else, and you have multiple locations (or remote workers), call TCS and find out how we can get you started on your path towards uninterrupted calls.

Top 4 Reasons 4 Cloud

Do you take business calls on your cell phone? Of course you do! Do your employees or sales force work remotely, from home or the road at least some of the time? Most likely. A recent study by web conferencing software company, PGi, indicates that globally, 79% of office employees work remotely at least one day each week.

Are your employees asking to bring their own devices to work? It’s a growing trend and one that can drastically reduce your initial expenditure in device acquisition. Gartner research projected that by 2017, 90% of organizations will support some level of BYOD and by 2018, twice as many employees will use their own device versus company owned technology. Have you found this to be the case? We have.

As business communications become more diverse and sophisticated, advanced technology is necessary to keep pace with new trends and market demands. Unfortunately, most legacy phone systems cannot support the future of business communications needs, but fortunately, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) have options to overcome this challenge.

79% of office employees work remotely at least one day each week.

Modern communication applications once reserved for big businesses are now affordable to businesses of all sizes. Through hosted phone services (aka VoIP), SMBs gain the capabilities needed to support diverse devices, connect remote workers to the office and streamline communications between employees and customers. These tremendous benefits are likely why 86% of small businesses are considering replacing traditional phone systems with cloud-based communications, according to a recent Cisco survey.

In this highly connected world where customers increasingly expect you to answer their call from virtually anywhere, at any time, the power of VoIP offers next-generation business communication tools to support all your emerging needs. Here are four reasons why you should consider replacing your antiquated phone system with a future-proofed cloud communications solution.

1. Improved Communications to Build Your Business

Cloud communication services enable the same sophisticated audio and video capabilities as even the largest players in your industry. A hosted solution allows access to modern applications like virtual audio attendant and Unified Communications, or products like voice, chat, data, technologies, and more that integrate with your phone. Companies with cloud communications improve customer service, employee productivity, and customer connections.

Example: A virtual auto attendant supports remote or long distance workers by ensuring employees never miss an important business call even when working away from their office. Serving the role of a front desk receptionist, the virtual auto attendant greets each caller then automatically routes them to the appropriate employee. Calls can be forwarded to any device, with messages accessible from any cell phone or home phone as well. With this functionality, employees can work remotely or travel while maintaining excellent communication with coworkers and customers.

Unified Communications decreases the complexity of integrating and coordinating a wide range of communications channels, networks, systems, and applications by uniting them under a single interface so employees can better collaborate to work more productively. What’s more, with Unified Communications, businesses can now contract all their communications needs from a single provider with one invoice as opposed to sourcing multiple vendors. According to an Inc. Magazine research study on the benefits of Unified Communications, 67% of user organizations reported increased mobile worker productivityand faster problem resolution. Adopting the latest business communication applications transforms the way you do business and keeps your company on the cutting edge for a better, more collaborative experience with customers and employees.

2. Scalable Services That Grow With You

VoIP is highly scalable and saves you money by:

  • Eliminating the need to predict the future and pay for services not currently required by your business. Instead, you can choose only the hosted services and features you want right now.
  • Providing added cost-efficiency with the ability to immediately scale up or down at the drop of a dime, depending on your specific requirements.
  • Automate the upgrade process with contracted services, so your business benefits from using the latest cutting edge technology at all times.

SMBs often over invest in traditional phone systems to “prepare” for long-term needs or “save” on impending increased costs. Sometimes, these investments don’t pan out and turn into regrettable losses, and other times you simply don’t use the contracted services. Dropping them can require a costly visit from maintenance to remove hardware or paying through the next billing cycle. With a business class hosted solution, you’re empowered to scale capabilities appropriately and at your pace.

3. Lower Costs

Ever hear of the idiom of throwing good money after bad? That’s what you are doing when trying to maintain an outdated phone system. Often, the investment in upgrades and service does not generate an appropriate return on investment. For many small businesses and especially startups, a premise-based phone system with its hardware upgrades and maintenance fees simply isn’t practical.

Eliminating the need for onsite technicians, phone lines, maintenance fees and surcharges for advanced capabilities, business class phone services can drastically reduce costs—by up to 40% over traditional phone services. Owned and operated by the provider, transitioning to a hosted phone solution involves minimal capital investment. And as calls run through the Internet, you don’t pay for additional equipment to connect workers at home and different locations.

As an added benefit, you get just one phone bill from a single cloud service provider each month as usages plans are shared across the corporation. No longer must you predict future business needs nor deal with the complexity of working with multiple vendors. Cloud communications provides your business with a streamlined and lower-cost enterprise-wide solution, allowing you to allocate those resources to other critical business areas.

Business class phone services can drastically reduce costs—by up to 40% over traditional phone services.

4. Unparalleled Business Continuity

Smooth communications are the lifeline of any organization. Without them, you interrupt business continuity. So, what happens in the event of a power outage or emergency? Unlike traditional phone systems that rely on power for connectivity, business class cloud communications and hosted voice services continue to operate even when other services are down.

If weather makes traveling to the office dangerous or difficult, employees can leverage VoIP capabilities at home to reroute calls and manage phone traffic. Traditional telephone systems fail to simulate office communications at home. In a worst-case scenario of a fire or other disaster at an office location, on-premise systems could be permanently damaged while a cloud communications solution continues to support you during the event and through your recovery.

If weather makes traveling to the office dangerous or difficult, employees can leverage VoIP capabilities at home to reroute calls and manage phone traffic.

When planning a business continuity strategy, companies should consider business class cloud communications as a critical component. While most businesses don’t know costs related to defective phone services, the reality is that any unanswered call is potentially lost business that might never be recovered.
